Premier League 2024/25: Arsenal 2-2 Crystal Palace – ‘Result and performance disappointing’ – Arteta

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has expressed disappointment following the outcome against Crystal Palace in the Premier League match at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday 23 April, 2025.

The Gunners were forced to share points against the Eagles as the top flight finished 2-2.

Arteta described both the “result and performance” as “disappointing”.

Jakub Kiwior and Leandro Trossard scored for Arsenal in the 2nd and 41st minute respectively, while Eberechi Eze and Jean-Philippe Mateta scored for Crystal Palace in the 26th and 82nd minutes respectively.

Arsenal will now focus on the Uefa Champions League semi final showdown against French giants, Paris Saint-Germaine (PSG), to take place at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday 29 April, 2025 at 20:00(WAT).

According to arsenal.com, In his post-Palace comments, Arteta said:

On the result…

“Yeah, disappointing with the result and the performance as well. I think we never got the consistency in many areas to completely dominate the game – we always had the feeling that we had the ball, we had possession, we went in front twice, but the game wasn’t grabbed, it wasn’t dominated and controlled the way that we normally do because we were below the standards in some areas. When you are not at your best, but you are two times ahead, you have to be able to see the game off and we weren’t able to do it, especially with what happened in the second half.”

On if the PSG game was on the players’ minds…

“Hopefully not, but we discussed that before Ipswich, and it wasn’t there, and today we still had six days to prepare that match, and I don’t want to use that. Obviously, we have missed a lot of players, a lot of players that haven’t trained at all, they weren’t able to do it today so we were very short. Credit to Palace, they are very well organised, they are a really good side, they made it difficult for us and everyone else, but today we weren’t at our best.”

On the reason behind the amount of draws we’ve had…

“We haven’t been able to see the games off for many reasons, and the margins have been too small. Sometimes that, sometimes credit to the opposition, it’s true that we played five times with ten men. There are a lot of factors, but obviously it’s something that we’ve done much better in the past, especially when we’ve been ahead in games. Today, without really much happening, especially in the second half, we have to be able to see the game off.”
