Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, said: “At the commissioning of Nike Arts Gallery complex building at Akoda, Osun state, we honored the proprietor, Chief (Mrs) Monica Adenike Okundaye, as the Queen of Adire. This is in recognition of her local and global contributions to the adoption and popularity of adire textile.
“Mama Adenike’s contributions to the development of Arts and Culture remain iconic, making this latest achievement a symbol of hard work, innovation and accomplishment for our mother in culture and tradition.
“Our government has adopted Adire as a symbol of our heritage and we have remained committed to its revival, to champion the identity of our dear state. To further promote this tradition, I have directed the Ministry of Arts and Culture, as well as all cultural agencies under the Osun State government, to collaborate with Nike Arts Gallery to enhance the implementation of the state’s creative industry agenda.

“In my address, I highlighted few of our administration’s initiatives, aimed at promoting Arts and Culture in the state, including the compulsory Adire attire for all public servants; elected officials and political appointees, every Wednesday of the week, as well as the upcoming Adire Osun Carnical.
“I announced the appointment of Mama Adenike Okundaye as the global ambassador and Queen for the Adire Osun Carnival. This is in recognition of Mama Adenike as a world renowned Adire Culture and Arts practitioner, taking into account, her creative costume and her unique, yet flamboyant headwear as a trademark for the adire Osun Carnival 2025.”
