The photo shared by Rivers United head coach, Finidi George, has the winger alongside teammate, Kanu, with the Intercontinental Trophy in 1995 at Dutch Eredivisie club, Ajax Amsterdam.
Finidi George wrote: “That unforgettable year — 1995 Intercontinental triumph with Ajax and the great Kanu Nwankwo.”
The Intercontinental Cup, the European/South American Cup officially, was an international football competition endorsed by UEFA (Europe) and CONMEBOL (South America), contested between representative clubs from both confederations, usually the winners of the UEFA Champions League and the South American Copa Libertadores. It held from 1960 to 2004, when it was succeeded by the FIFA Club World Cup.
