United Nations (UN) Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, has made known his shock after the killing of 15 medical personnel and humanitarian workers in Gaza by an Israeli army attack.
The UN Chief said, the protection of medical personnel and humanitarian and emergency workers must be guaranteed “at all times”.
Guterres said: “I am shocked by the attack by the Israeli army on a medical and emergency convoy on 23 March resulting in the killing of 15 medical personnel and humanitarian workers in Gaza.
“Medical personnel and humanitarian and emergency workers must be protected by all at all times.”
The fighting between Israel and Palestinian fighters, known as, Hamas, started in the early hours of Saturday 7 October, 2023 after Hamas struck the Southern region of Israel by surprise and killed more than 1,000 Israelis with many more taken hostage.
Guterres said, “nothing can justify the 7 October terror attacks”, he however added, “nothing can justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people” as he renewed his call “for the immediate restoration of the ceasefire, the immediate & unconditional release of all hostages”.
Guterres continued: “Nothing can justify the 7 October terror attacks.
“Nothing can justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people.
“I renew my call for the immediate restoration of the ceasefire, the immediate & unconditional release of all hostages & unimpeded humanitarian access.”
