DFB Cup 2024/25: Arminia Bielefeld 2-1 Bayer Leverkusen – Third tier side shock Alonso’s Black and Reds to reach final

Arminia Bielefeld, third tier club, came from the back to stun German Champions, Bayer Leverkusen, 2-1 in the semi final of the DFB Cup on Tuesday 1 April, 2025.

Bielefeld, who have eliminated four (4) Bundesliga sides in consecutive rounds in the competition, emerged the fourth third-tier side to progress to the final.

Jonathan Tah netted Xabi Alonso’s side’s goal in the 17th minute, however, Bielefeld fought back and levelled through M. Wörl in the 20th minute.

M. Grosser sealed the win for Bielefeld in the 3rd minute of first half additional time.

Alonso’s Black and Reds have never lost any DFB Cup match since the Spanish manager took charge of the club until now in the hands of a third tier club.
