‘Ceasefire is the only way to ensure the release of the hostages’ – Macron to Netanyahu

President of France, Emmanuel Macron, told Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, that, “ceasefire is the only way to ensure the release of the hostages still held by Hamas.”

The French President also “reiterated to him France’s support for the security of Israel and its people.”

Macron’s statement is coming after the Israeli PM said, “President Macron is gravely mistaken when he continues to promote the idea of a Palestinian state.”

Macron said: “I just spoke with Prime Minister Benjamin @Netanyahu . I reiterated to him France’s support for the security of Israel and its people. The release of all hostages has always been an absolute priority, as has the demilitarization of Hamas.

“I have expressed my position very clearly:

“The ceasefire is the only way to ensure the release of the hostages still held by Hamas. The opening of all humanitarian aid crossings is a vital necessity for the civilian population of Gaza. I saw it in El-Arish: this aid is blocked on the other side of the border. It must reach civilians as quickly as possible. The ordeal suffered by the civilian population of Gaza must end.

“I hope that the next few hours will allow such a decision and the release of other hostages. Ceasefire, release of all hostages, humanitarian aid, and finally reopening the prospect of a two-state political solution. It is in this context that I view the June Conference, taking into account the security interests of Israel and everyone in the region.

“Peace, as soon as possible.”
