Federal Liberal candidate for Brampton West, Kamal Khera, has responded to President of the United States (US), Donald Trump, after he said, “zero tariffs or taxes if Canada becomes the 51st State of the United States of America”.
Khera responded: “Canada will NEVER be the 51st state.”
The US President’s statement came prior to Canada’s Election which held on Monday 28 April, 2025.
In his message to Canadians, Trump said: “Good luck to the Great people of Canada. Elect the man who has the strength and wisdom to cut your taxes in half, increase your military power…WITH ZERO TARIFFS OR TAXES, if Canada becomes the cherished 51st. State of the United States of America.”
Leader of the Liberal Party, Mark Carney, and Leader of the Conservative Party, Pierre Poilievre, have both responded to Trump saying, “Canada will never be the 51st State.”
