Uefa Champions League 2024/25: Bayer 0-2 Bayern – ‘We wanted to force the luck and the hope but that didn’t come’ – Alonso

Bayer Leverkusen Spanish manager, Xabi Alonso, said, his side “wanted to force the luck and the hope but that didn’t come.”

Alonso’s statement is coming after his side crashed out of the Uefa Champions League 2024/25 after a 0-5 aggregate defeat to Bayern Munich.

In the first leg of the tie, the Black and Reds lost 3-0 at Allianz Arena, and 2-0 in the second leg at BayArena.

He said, Leverkusen “didn’t lose the tie today. We lost it in the second half in Munich”, however, the Spaniard expressed satisfaction in his team, saying, “I’m nevertheless proud of the team, we left everything out there”.

According to fcbayern.com, here are reactions from the camp of Bayer Leverkusen:

“We didn’t lose the tie today. We lost it in the second half in Munich. Today we gave everything in the first half, we wanted to force the luck and the hope – but that didn’t come. I’m nevertheless proud of the team, we left everything out there.”

“The last week has hit us, we’ve hit a bit of a dip in form. Bayern were clearly better – when you lose 5-0 over two legs, there’s certainly big disappointment. But we can only learn from this. You feel the absences of players like Florian Wirtz, but Bayern also knew how to close off our spaces. We hardly had any proper attempts on goal. Bayern were clearly the better team, we have to acknowledge that. We’re nevertheless proud, we want to remain competitive against Bayern and the other big teams. We have to grow and come back from this disappointment.”
