International Women’s Day 2025: ‘From pay disparities to a lack of representation, the road to equity isn’t easy, but it is possible’ – Rt. Hon. Meranda

On International Women’s Day 2025, today, Saturday 8 March, 2025, former First Female Speaker & The Deputy Speaker, 10th Lagos State House of Assembly, RT. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, wrote: “Today, on International Women’s Day, I stand proud to celebrate the incredible strength and resilience of women globally, especially the women of Lagos. As Deputy Speaker of the 10th Lagos State House of Assembly, I am reminded of the journey we’ve traveled and the work still ahead to ensure the rights, equality, and empowerment of all women and girls.

“I’ve seen firsthand the challenges women face in the workplace—barriers that often hold us back. From pay disparities to a lack of representation, the road to equity isn’t easy, but it is possible.

“This year’s theme, “ #AccelerateAction : For All Women and Girls: Rights, Equity, Empowerment,” calls us to act—not just in words, but through policies, laws, and cultural shifts that create equal opportunities for every woman.

“I stand firmly for policies that empower women to lead without limitations. But beyond legislation, it’s about supporting each other—mentoring, empowering, and investing in the next generation of women leaders.

“Let’s keep pushing for change. Together, we will create a future where every woman and girl can thrive, succeed, and lead.”
