The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has assured Super Eagles defender, Calvin Bassey, of its unwavering and firm support in the face of racial abuse following Fulham FC’s triumph over Manchester United in the FA Cup match on Sunday.
Fulham and Manchester United finished 1-1 in the FA Cup fifth round encounter at Old Trafford on Sunday 2 March, 2025; the Cottagers went ahead to win 4-3 in a penalty shootout.
Calvin Bassey netted the visitors’ goal before Bruno Fernandes levelled for United.
Nigeria’s football governing body said, it “stands firmly against all forms of discrimination, including racial abuse”, adding, “Calvin has our unwavering support, and together, we will continue to fight against racism in football and society”.
According to Super Eagles: “The NFF stands firmly against all forms of discrimination, including racial abuse, and fully supports @CalvinBassey in the face of these unacceptable actions. We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all players, both on and off the field. Calvin has our unwavering support, and together, we will continue to fight against racism in football and society.”
