Bayern Munich manager , Vincent Kompany, has hailed Scottish Premiership club, Celtic, saying, “I have seen a lot of Celtic’s games – they have done very well in the Champions League so far and can always be dangerous.”
However, the Belgian manager expressed his confidence in his side, saying, “we are very strong at home”, adding, “Tomorrow will be an important game for us and the whole club”.
Bayern Munich will welcome Celtic for the second leg of their Uefa Champions League 2024/25 Knockout Play-off at Allianz Arena on Tuesday 18 February, 2025 at 21:00 (WAT).
At his press conference ahead of the encounter, Kompany said:
On Harry Kane’s absence from training today:
“It’s nothing bad for Harry, but we have very little time to recover. Sometimes you need an extra day, but we’ll see how Harry feels tomorrow morning. I assume it’s nothing bad.”
On Celtic:
“Tomorrow will be an important game for us and the whole club. We are very strong at home. […] I have seen a lot of Celtic’s games – they have done very well in the Champions League so far and can always be dangerous. We won at Celtic Park and then got an important point in Leverkusen. It’s a good opportunity to do something well again in these six days, which have been very busy. When the results are right, you have that little bit of extra strength, and that should help us tomorrow.”
On the current workload:
“We trust our squad. I don’t want to judge what will happen in the future yet and I don’t want to look any further than our game against Celtic tomorrow. But we have had to make some changes now and then. We have a lot of games – that’s the truth – but that’s also fun, and we have the squad that’s up for it.”
On learnings from Leverkusen:
“We got a point to stay eight points ahead – and we kept a clean sheet. We are now focusing on Celtic and we have to show something tomorrow. That’s what counts – not the Leverkusen game! This season, we have scored almost 100 goals, had the most shots on goal, conceded the fewest goals and also conceded the fewest shots on our goal. In this phase, when we have so many games, it’s now about concentrating on Celtic.”
