Before Trump Jr arrived in the capital Nuuk, he said he was going as a tourist on a “very long, personal, day-trip”, to interact with people, and had no plans of meetings with government officials.
Mute Egede, Prime Minister of the Island, said in December: “We are not for sale and we will not be for sale. Greenland belongs to the people of Greenland.”
Greenland has wide-ranging autonomy, with a population of 57,000, however, its economy is largely dependent on subsidies from Copenhagen, and it remains part of the Kingdom of Denmark.
After arriving in Greenland, Trump Jr wrote: “Greenland is beautiful!!!
“Greenland coming in hot… well, actually, really really cold!!!!”
