In her New Year message, Amina Mohammed, United Nations (UN) Deputy Secretary-General, called for the continuation of efforts toward ensuring the release of Israeli hostages abducted on Saturday 7 October, 2023.

She said, “let us take into 2025 the resolve to continue to work for the immediate and unconditional release of all Israeli hostages.”
In the early hours of Saturday 7 October, 2023, Palestinian fighters, known as, Hamas, struck the southern region of Israel, killing more than 1,000 Israeli with many other taken hostage.
Amina Mohammed wrote: “As we leave behind 2024, let us take into 2025 the resolve to continue to work for the immediate and unconditional release of all Israeli hostages taken by Hamas on 7 October.”
