Omokri described the move as “good”, saying, “It will force us, as Black Africans, to introspect, and by looking inward, we will find homegrown solutions to our challenges”.

In his reaction, Reno Omokri said: “President Trump’s suspension of foreign aid to many countries, especially African nations, is good. It will force us, as Black Africans, to introspect, and by looking inward, we will find homegrown solutions to our challenges. Necessity is the mother of invention!

It is like refusing to stop breastfeeding your child or constantly giving your baby a feeding bottle. That child will hardly get weaned and mature.

President Trump and the United States are focused on their own domestic issues in an America-first policy. We, too, as Africans, should have that Africa-first laser focus. But when we have visa-free access for Europeans, Americans, and Canadians but place heavy visa burdens on our fellow Africans and trade with other races more than we trade with ourselves, we should not complain when Trump does what he has to do.

Annually, the African continent earns approximately $3.2 billion from coffee and cocoa exports, mainly to Europe, while Germany makes $4 billion reexporting refined coffee and cocoa imported from Africa.

That is how they get the aid they give us.

Let us, as Africans, stop begging and start bagging our resources so that we, too, can also be bragging, like Trump.”
