California Wildfires: Some things to know about the LA fires – Cause, who is affected

Structures in Los Angeles County ravaged by Wildfires 

A series of intense wildfires ignited last week and raged across the Los Angeles area, ravaging hundreds of homes and killing at least 24 people, encompassing some who died trying to prevent the fires from destroying their homes.

The Wildfires – Where?

The Palisades Fire, The Hurst Fire, The Eaton Fire, The Auto Fire, The Lidia Fire, Kenneth Fire.

Affected?

More than 100,000 are under evacuation orders, 24 people have been killed, thousands have been displaced – officials say these figures are not exact.

Over 12,000 structures have been destroyed. Entire neighbourhoods and blocks have been ravaged, leaving an unknown number of people homeless.

According to medical examiner’s office, it could take weeks to confirm the identities of those killed.

Economic Losses?

According to AccuWeather, the Los Angeles Fires are the most expensive in the US history with an estimate of more than $200 billion in losses.

Cause?

What led to the Fires remain unknown.

Officials have urged people to consider moving when evacuation orders are given, rather than wait for a mandatory order.
