Recently reappointed Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, revealed, she met with H.E John Lee, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, joined by Acting Secretary of Commerce Dr Bernard Chan and Director General of Trade Mr Aaron Liu.

The WTO DG said, “China is a strong supporter of the Multilateral Trading System with @wto at the core, with one of the highest trade to GDP ratios in the world at 380% Hong Kong.”
According to Okonjo-Iweala: “Meeting H.E John Lee, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, joined by Acting Secretary of Commerce Dr Bernard Chan and Director General of Trade Mr Aaron Liu. With one of the highest trade to GDP ratios in the world at 380% Hong Kong, China is a strong supporter of the Multilateral Trading System with @wto at the core. Discussions centered on Hong Kong’s very active role at the WTO thanks to the energetic Amb H.E Winky So and her team who are very active in @WTO reforms and the various negotiating files. Discussed Hong Kong’s role as a middle power and the need for continued strong support for an open, stable, predictable and fair Multilateral Trading System. Okonjo-Iweala’s reappointment as WTO DG takes effect 1 September, 2025.
