Donald Trump, President-Elect of the United States (US), has asked the US Supreme Court to delay an upcoming ban on TikTok while he works on reaching a “political resolution”.

On Friday, his lawyer filed a legal brief with the court that says Trump “opposes banning TikTok” and “seeks the ability to resolve the issues at hand through political means once he takes office”.

The court, on January 10, 2025, is due to hear arguments that needs ByteDance, TikTok Chinese owner, to allow an American firm to buy the social media company or get banned on 19 January – a day before Trump takes office.

Previously, the Supreme Court has declined to act on a request for an emergency injunction against the law, however, it agreed to allow TikTok, ByteDance and the US government to plead their cases on 10 January – few days before the ban takes effect.
