Wen-Je, 65, is accused of bribery, accepting more than half a million dollars, involving a real estate dealing during his term as mayor of Taipei, also misreporting finances of campaign during his run for President in January.
Up to 28.5 years in prison is what prosecutors are seeking.
This indictment also lands a crucial blow to the political movement he stands for, which has struck a chord with voters looking for another option to the governing Democratic People’s Party and main opposition Kuomintang.
