South Korea: MPs file motion to impeach caretaker President

Opposition lawmakers in South Korea have filed a motion to impeach the Asian country’s Prime Minister and acting President, Han Duck-soo, less than two weeks after parliament voted to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol.

This is happening after Han Duck-soo refused to appoint constitutional court judges nominated by Democratic Party (DP), the main opposition.

Park Chan-dae, DP’s floor leader, said on Thursday, “Han has revealed himself to be an acting insurrectionist, not an acting president.”

The opposition has also gone ahead to accuse Han of aiding Yoon’s martial law attempt on 3 Dec.

Han earlier tendered apology for failing to block it.
