According to Reno Omokri: “On Abdourahamane Tchiani’s Recent Panic-Driven Outburst Against President Tinubu and Nigeria

Nigerien junta leader, Abdourahamane Tchiani |
“The Nigerien junta leader, Abdourahamane Tchiani, is in a panic mode, and it is leading to a situation where he is making wild and totally unfounded allegations against Nigeria. His anxiety is caused by the fact that he is in precisely the same situation that Bashar al-Assad was until recently.
Like Bashar al-Assad, he is facing a rebellion and multiple domestic agitators, especially in the Sahel. And just as al-Assad did, he turned to Russia. Now, the penny has dropped, and Tchiani has seen that Russia could not save Bashar al-Assad when push came to shove. He is beginning to feel naked and vulnerable. But he cannot stand up to his new friends. He is completely beholden to them. So he has to look for an outlet, a target to vent his frustrations on.
Tchiani’s wild and unfounded allegations against President Tinubu are a classic case of siege mentality, reflecting his present agitated state of mind.
He feels fearful of neighbours that Niger has shared for centuries because of his paranoia and fears that if Russian and Wagner forces could not prop up their ally in Syria, how can he feel confident.
For a leader, even a junta leader, to have made the wild and infantile allegations he did is concerning. But even more worrisome is the fact that, though the official language of Niger is French, Tchiani elected to make his tirade in Hausa rather than his country’s official language. The obvious inference is that his intended target is Northern Nigeria.
He wants to turn the North against the Tinubu administration. Why? Does he think his situation will improve if there is regime change in Nigeria? The man is clearly not thinking this through.
Which country or government will trust or want to do business with a military dictator who dabbles in the domestic affairs of neighbouring nations? Even Burkina Faso and Mali would become uncomfortable. An unstable mind is not the kind of ally you want when you are in a bind.
“It is in the interest of Brigadier General Abdourahamane Tchiani to get a hold of himself and find solutions to the pressing domestic problems facing his country, including a worsening insurgency from the North, the proliferation of weapons in the hand of non-state actors in the Sahel region of Niger, widespread food shortages, the collapse of freedom of information and other fundamental human rights since his coup, rather than trying to instigate discontent within Nigeria.
Rather than alienating Nigeria, Mr. Tchiani may want to learn from Nigeria’s recent successes at reducing terrorism and insecurity, which have resulted in the near eradication of Boko Haram, and the precision air and drone strikes that have taken out previously untouchable bandit leaders.”
