The Spaniard made the statement at his press conference prior to the Manchester Derby on Sunday.
On Sunday 15 December, 2024, Manchester City will lock horns with neighbours, Manchester United, in the Premier League match at Etihad Stadium.
The Cityzens will head into the match with a very low morale after clinching just one (1) win in ten (10) games in all competitions; the most recent loss (2-0) against Juventus in the Uefa Champions League 2024/25 League Phase match in Turin, Italy on Wednesday 11 December, 2024.
At his press conference ahead of the top flight encounter, Guardiola said:
On Kevin De Bruyne…
“Kevin [De Bruyne] is coming back, last game was better than the previous one, step by step. Erling [Haaland] has played all the minutes which is unbelievable. All of them. It’s so emotional when I see them in the recovery and the time spent in this period. It’s remarkable and I’m there with them.”
On Jack Grealish…
“Jack [Grealish] played again really good. We have to move forward and keep working. Sooner or later we will come back.”
On Manu Akanji…
“He has discomfort in the stomach area, abductor. It doesn’t feel good but he made an incredible effort. Him and Nathan [Ake] weren’t even at half their best and they helped to play there. He [Manu Akanji] plays 45 minutes and steps back and says I have to recover or I can’t compete. He’s a strong player and so reliable but in that moment he cannot play.”
