The Dutch manager described English player, Jamie Vardy, as a “great striker”, saying, “it is great to have him in the squad”.
At his first press conference as Leicester City manager, Nistelrooy said:
On joining the Foxes…
“It means a lot. To be managing this Club and this group of players, representing Leicester City in the Premier League, I’m very excited. I’m proud to get this opportunity.”
On his arrival at the Club…
“Sunday was the first day that I met the players and staff. I had a meeting with the players and that was the first thing to address, the challenge that we’re facing and what’s necessary to get out of that.”
On working with Jamie Vardy…
“He has had a career for a long time and been fit and producing all that time. I think he is a great striker, and it is great to have him in the squad.”
On developing into the future…
“Today is the first time we’ve had the whole group together and we’ve started to share that plan with the players. In two days, it’s difficult to make those changes, but as a staff we’ve started and little by little we’ll make a team that can compete.”
