During the handover ceremony in Maiduguri on Wednesday, NEMA’s Director-General, Zubaida Umar, represented by the Director of Relief and Rehabilitation, Adamu Abdullahi Usur, highlighted the agency’s commitment to supporting flood victims. She noted that the relief items were part of ongoing efforts to aid communities affected by the collapse of the Alau Dam in Maiduguri.
“Today’s handover of relief materials donated by PCFRR is a testament to the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The materials will complement ongoing efforts to rebuild and rehabilitate flood-affected communities in Borno State. However, rebuilding requires sustained collective action,” she stated.
Umar called on stakeholders, including development partners, NGOs, and the private sector, to continue supporting the recovery efforts, emphasizing the need for collaborative action to restore hope and provide sustainable recovery pathways for the affected communities.
The donated items include 4,000 bags of beans (25kg), 5,000 cartons of noodles, 500 kegs of vegetable oil, 1,000 cartons of tomato paste, 3,000 foam mattresses (6×3), 3,000 pieces each of guinea brocade and wax prints, 3,000 mosquito nets, and 1,500 cartons each of diapers and sanitary pads, among other necessities.
