Wales: High street family bakery closes after 100 years

A bakery managed by a family is closing its doors for the last time, putting an end to an era stretching way back more than one hundred (100) years.

Carlton Bakery stops business on Saturday with the Roberts family selling up after four generations in Caernarfon, Gwynedd, Northeast of Wales.

The bakery was founded by Dewi Roberts’ great-grandparents in 1922 and the current owner is his 83-year old father Alun, known as cwstad (custard) by locals.

40-year old Dewi who has worked in the shop since he was a boy, however, has done other work, revealed to BBC Cymru Fyw, his mother taught him how to bake.
