National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) disclosed, a fire incident which occurred on the evening of November 27, 2024, starting in an upstairs room, damaged a building on Odo-Ijoka Street, Akure, Ondo State.

The Agency established to manage disasters in Nigeria further disclosed, “efforts to extinguish the fire were hindered by an explosion that intensified the blaze”, fortunately, “the occupant was absent”.
According to NEMA: “Fire Disaster at Odo-Ijoka, Akure, Ondo State
An assessment team comprising NEMA Ekiti Operations Office, Ondo SEMA, Red Cross, and local officials inspected a fire-damaged building on Odo-Ijoka Street, Akure, on November 28, 2024. The fire occurred on the evening of November 27, 2024, starting in an upstairs room while the occupant was absent. Efforts to extinguish the fire were hindered by an explosion that intensified the blaze. The incident resulted in the destruction of properties worth millions. Authorities, including the Ministry of Environment and Works, have been contacted to demolish the remaining structure to prevent further hazards. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown.”
