AFCON 2025 Qualification: Nigeria 1-2 Rwanda – Despite win, Wasps fail to secure Morocco spot

Wasps of Rwanda shocked Super Eagles of Nigeria with a 2-1 win in the Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifier at Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Monday 18 November, 2024.

It was Augustine Eguavoen’s side that went in front in the 59th minute through AC Milan winger, Samuel Chukwueze, but the Wasps fought back and levelled  through Aimable Mutinzi in the 72nd minute, and Imanishimwe Nshuti sealed victory for the visitors in the 75th minute.

With this outcome, Nigeria finished Group D as toppers with eleven (11) points and are through to Morocco, while Rwanda finished as third with eight (8) points, and failed to qualify for the AFCON 2025 after losing on goal difference with Benin.

Benin, amassing eight (8) points also, joined Nigeria to Morocco after finishing goalless in their qualifier against Libya on Monday 18 November, 2024; Libya finished fourth with five (5) points.
