Sudan Unrest: ‘Every month 10,000 new refugees arrive Uganda escaping vi*lence’ – UNHCR Chief Grandi

High Commissioner for United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), Filippo Grandi, disclosed, “every month 10,000 new refugees arrive Uganda, escaping violence in neighbouring DR Congo and now Sudan.”

The fighting in Sudan which started in April, 2023 is between two major rival groups of the military government of Sudan, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) under Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) under leader Hemedti.

Grandi said, “Uganda’s refugee policies are generous but public services are overstretched”, and called for a “collective response”.

According to Grandi: “I am in Uganda: the country hosting the most refugees in Africa.
