In August, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared Mpox a global public health emergency for the second time in two years as a new variant of the rare zoonotic disease spread from Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to neighbouring African countries.

Zambia’s first case was detected in a Tanzanian national, 32, who arrived in Zambia in early September, before travelling around the Southern African country and developing symptoms including, muscle aches, sore throat and fatigue in October.

The male patient is receiving medical attention at a rural health centre.
