The fighting between Israel and Hamas started in the early hours of Saturday 7 October, 2023 after Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel, killing thousands of Israelis and taking many others hostage; the fighting will be exactly one year old on Monday 7 October, 2024.
Scholz cried, “so much suffering, so much deaths.”
Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, has made it clear, the fighting continues until all Israeli hostages are freed and safely returned home.
According to Scholz: “A year ago, Hamas terrorists murdered well over 1,000 Israelis and abducted hundreds. At the same time, they caused a catastrophe for the Palestinian people.
So much suffering, so many deaths.
We therefore continue to work persistently for a ceasefire.”
