Nigeria’s U17 Women’s Team head coach, Olowookere Bankole, has expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their support as Nigeria discomfited New Zealand 4-1 in their FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup 2024 opener on Wednesday 16 October, 2024.

Nigeria’s Taiwo Afolabi emerged Player Of The Match.

Coach Bankole, in his post-victory comments, said, “hopeful for more positive results ahead”, and described Flamingoes’ triumph as an “impressive win”.

FIFA said, “Nigeria’s high-flying attack was too much for New Zealand to handle.”

According to Coach Bankole: “We kicked off our campaign in the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Dominican Republic with an impressive 4-1 win against New Zealand.
