Bundesliga 2024/25: Bayer Leverkusen 2-2 Holstein Kiel – Boniface score as Black and Reds are held at home

Nigerian sharpshooter, Victor Boniface, found the back of the net twice for Bayer Leverkusen, however, his second in the 26th minute was struck out by VAR.

Bayer Leverkusen were held to a 2-2 draw by Holstein Kiel in the Bundesliga 2024/25 match at BayArena on Saturday 5 October, 2024.

Boniface opened scoring for Xabi Alonso’s side very early, in the 4th minute, and Jonas Hoffman added the second in the 8th minute, however, the visitors fought back and pulled one back before the end of first half, in the 45+5′, through Max Geschwill.

Holstein Kiel continued fighting until Fiete Arp levelled in the 69th minute from the penalty spot.

With this outcome, Bayer Leverkusen has dropped below top four. The Black and Reds are 5th with 11 points, while Holstein Kiel are 17th with 2 points, both after six (6) encounters.

In his post-draw comments, Alonso said: “We are not happy with our performance. We were too passive. We didn’t bring the mentality that we have had in the Champions League and we need to learn from today.”
