Nigeria players and officials were left stranded at the airport after arriving for their AFCON 2025 qualifier second leg “with no food no wifi.”
Effiong said, “Libyan government and football federation acted irresponsibly by subjecting the Super Eagles to mental torture and dehumanizing conditions.”
Super Eagles skipper, William Troost-Ekong, said, “we will not play this game” following the “dehumanizing conditions” they suffered in the hands of airport officials in Libya.
Lawyer Effiong said: “The Libyan government and football federation acted irresponsibly by subjecting the Super Eagles to mental torture and dehumanizing conditions.
We cannot tolerate such cruel treatment on our national team. Their explanation is not convincing. I hope that CAF will take the necessary measures to address it.”
The Super Eagles of Nigeria was scheduled to face the Mediterranean Knights of Libya in the second leg of the Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifier in Benghazi on Tuesday 15 October, 2024.
