UNGA 79: ‘Nearly 70% of people facing extreme hunger today live in conflict-affected places’ – WFP

The World Food Programme (WFP) says, “conflict drives hunger.”

“The world’s largest humanitarian organization saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace, stability and prosperity, for people recovering from conflict, disasters and the impact of climate change”, said: “nearly 70% of people facing extreme hunger today live in fragile or conflict-affected places.”

It mentioned “Sudan. Gaza. Ukraine. Myanmar.” as “conflict-affected places”.

The 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 79) will open on Tuesday, 10 September 2024. The first day of the high-level General Debate will be Tuesday, 24 September 2024, continue through Saturday, 28 September, and conclude on Monday, 30 September 2024.

On 26 September, the UN General Assembly will convene a High-Level Meeting on antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
