The Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) has indicated that Cameroonian authorities have informed Nigeria that the Lagdo Dam is overflowing, which could cause significant flooding and environmental damage in Nigeria.
Therefore, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) is alerting the populace, especially the following frontline states:
1. Kogi
2. Nasarawa
3. Adamawa
4. Taraba
5. Benue
6. Anambra
7. Bayelsa
8. Delta
9. Edo
10. Cross River and
11. Rivers
To adhere to the following precautionary measures:
1.Evacuate from flood-prone areas.
2.Ensure drainage systems are well-maintained and clear of debris.
3.Reinforce or build flood defenses such as levees, dikes, and barriers.
4. Adhere to building regulations that require structures to be flood-resistant, especially in flood-prone areas.
5. Stockpile essential emergency supplies like food, water, medicines, and first aid kits at easily accessible locations.
In case of emergency, contact NEMA, SEMA, or nearby health facilities.
