EU’s former chief Brexit negotiator, Michel Barnier, has emerged new Prime Minister of France, says the office of the President of France.

This puts to an end two months of stalemate following inconclusive parliamentary elections.
Elysée Palace said in a statement on Thursday 5 September, 2024: “The President of the Republic has appointed Mr. Michel BARNIER as Prime Minister. He has tasked him with forming a unifying government to serve the country and the French people.”
73-year old Barnier, is a member of the Republicans party which represents the traditional right. On the international stage, he is best known for his role in mediating the exit of the United Kingdom (UK) from the European Union (EU).
