Nigerian striker, Victor Boniface, netted the winner for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga 2024/25 match against Wolfsburg at BayArena on Sunday 22 September, 2024.
Despite the victory, Bayer Leverkusen manager, Xabi Alonso, said, “a part of me is not happy after conceding 3 goals.”
Nordi Mukiele handed the visitor an early lead in the 4th minute after hitting the back of his own post, however, the Black and Reds levelled after their pressure had paid off through Florian Wirtz in the 14th minute; and Jonathan Tah placed the hosts ahead in the 32nd minute with the second.
Wolfsburg levelled and took the lead through Sebastiaan Bornauw and Mattias Svanberg in the 37th and 45+1′ respectively.
Substitute, Piero Hincapie, equalised for Alonso’s side in the 48th minute and Boniface sealed win for the hosts late, in the 3rd minute of additional time.
In his post-victory comments, Bayer Leverkusen manager, Alonso, said: “a part of me is happy with the points and another is not with our first half performance. The second half was better but the complete performance was not us. We don’t want to be conceding 3 goals every game.”
Bayer Leverkusen tagged Boniface “Comrade”. The German Champions wrote: “Comrade scores goals!”
