2023 Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has commiserated with the government and people of Borno State over the collapse of the Alau Dam which led to flooding in Maiduguri metropolis and brought about “tragic loss of lives, destruction of property”.

The “catastrophic flooding” happened following the collapse of Alau Dam in the city after heavy rain causing the “displacement of hundreds of thousands from their homes.”
The former Vice President pledged “full support towards the rebuilding efforts.”
Atiku wrote: “I commiserate with the government and people of Borno State over the catastrophic flooding that led to the tragic loss of lives, destruction of property, and the displacement of hundreds of thousands from their homes. You are not alone in this difficult time, and I, on behalf of my family, pledge my full support towards the rebuilding efforts.”
