France were unable to convert their multiple chances allowing Brazil enter the last four stage of the tournament.
Brazil will lock horns with Spain, who struggled to scale through Colombia, in the semi finals.
The encounter between Spain and Colombia ended 2-2, and Spain emerged victorious in a penalty shootout, winning 4-2.
In other quarter final encounters, USA defeated Japan by a lone goal, and Germany beat Canada 4-2 on penalties after a goalless draw.
USA will slug it out with Germany in the quarter finals.
