He congratulated her “for an exemplary diplomatic stay in Nigeria”, and said, “I look forward to seeing her replicate that leadership on her next assignment”.

Kwankwaso served as Governor of Kano State from 1999 to 2003 and from 2011 to 2015; following his loss in re-election in 2003, he was appointed the first Minister of Defence of the Fourth Republic with no prior military background, from 2003 to 2007, under the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo.

According to Kwankwaso: “I was pleased to receive Ms. Samuela Isopi, the outgoing European Union Ambassador to Nigeria, and her delegation on a farewell visit to my residence.

I congratulate her for an exemplary diplomatic stay in Nigeria, as she handled the bilateral relations between the bloc and our country with the warmth and determination of a diplomat.

I look forward to seeing her replicate that leadership on her next assignment.”
