Wolfsburg will welcome Bayern Munich at the Volkswagen Arena on Sunday 25 August, 2024 at 14:30 (WAT) for their first top flight encounter of the new season.
In his press conference ahead of the game, Kompany said, “maximum performance” is expected from everyone.
According to fcbayern.com, in his press conference, Kompany said:
On Michael Olise and Joao Palhinha:
“There’s a good chance they’ll play a lot this season, but let me keep my secrets until tomorrow.”
On Kimmich:
“In Sacha Boey and Josip Stanišić we have two excellent right-backs. I see Joshua Kimmich’s best position in central midfield, and he’s also showing that every day in training.”
On team news:
“If everything’s fine in training today, we have everyone available except the long-term absentees.”
On favourites for the title:
“We want to win every game, that’s our attitude. We always have to respect the opponents. Leverkusen were phenomenal last season. I think you’ll need around 90 points for the title again, so we need the maximum performance from everyone.”
On the match at Wolfsburg:
“They’re a team who can make it into Europe this season. We’re playing against a strong side, it’s a tough away match. For me it’s important that we show character. We want to stick to the line that we’ve seen in pre-season, where the team are getting better and better. We obviously want to win.”
On selecting the starting line-up:
“At the beginning, you have to make the effort to get an idea of the starting XI quickly. You only get to know the players better as you progress. You need a clear line, but sometimes it’s also a feeling – the opponents may change something, a player may not perform so well in training. You have to keep some freedom and also listen to your instincts, otherwise a computer could do it.”
On nervousness and excitement ahead of his first league match:
“I’m not nervous, I’m looking forward to the first Bundesliga match. It’s a big challenge. We’ve prepared ourselves well with the team and the staff. It’s down to the players who play tomorrow. I’m excited.”
