Lammy added, the UK with partners will ensure to step up “efforts to tackle these illicit vessels which pose significant maritime security and environmental threats”.

The UK Foreign Minister said: “We’re cracking down on Russia’s desperate and dangerous attempts to get around sanctions via its shadow fleet.

Alongside our partners, we are stepping up efforts to tackle these illicit vessels which pose significant maritime security and environmental threats.”

Lammy’s statement was in reaction to a tweet by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, which says: “SANCTIONED: vessels used by Russia to enable illicit trade in Russian oil.

Putin’s shadow fleet uses deceptive practices in an attempt to undermine sanctions. It is a serious risk to European maritime security, trade, and the environment.”
