Evan Gershkovic: ‘Sentencing is despicable, journalism should not be a crime’ – UK PM Starmer

Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK) has described Evan Gershkovic’s “sentencing as despicable”.

The UK PM said, “journalism should not be a crime”, and ordered that, American journalist, “Gershkovich must be released immediately”.

Evan Gershkovic, Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported has been found guilty of espionage by a Russian court and sentenced to 16 years.

PM Starmer said: “The sentencing of @WSJ reporter Evan Gershkovich is despicable and only serves to underscore Russia’s utter contempt for media freedom.


Journalism should not be a crime.


“Gershkovich must be released immediately.”
