Nigeria’s President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has joined other world leaders in condemning the assassination attempt on former United States (US) President, Donald Trump.
Trump was attacked at his campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday 13 July, 2024.
The shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, has been identified by the FBI and killed just some seconds after he shot at the former US President.
“Nigeria stands in solidarity with the United States of America at this time”, President Tinubu said.
The Nigerian President added, “the attack on former President Donald Trump goes beyond the pale of democratic norms”, describing the unfortunate incident as “distasteful”.
President Tinubu, in his condolence message to Mr Trump, said: “The attack on former President Donald Trump is distasteful and goes beyond the pale of democratic norms. Violence has no place in democracy.
I extend my sympathies to the former President and wish him relief. I also condole with the family of the deceased and those wounded and wish them a quick recovery.
Nigeria stands in solidarity with the United States of America at this time.”
