The former Governor of Anambra State cried, “these recurrent violent attacks and abductions of people are fast becoming an ugly tradition among us”, and warned, “if left unchecked, can consume everyone in no distant time”.

He pleaded with the government and security agencies to “rise and save the nation from further collapse into anarchy”.

Obi said: “Again, there are heartbreaking reports of another bandit attack in Niger State, wherein about 7 people were killed and over 200 people abducted. This, according to reports, happened in Kuchi village, Munya local government area of Niger State.

“These recurrent violent attacks and abductions of people are fast becoming an ugly tradition among us, which if left unchecked, can consume everyone in no distant time. The constant attacks on the villagers, who are mostly farmers,

“have continued to impact negatively on food production in the nation. Niger State, with its vast fertile lands, remains vital in food production and food security in Nigeria.

“We must not allow insecurity to interfere with agricultural activities in the nation and drive more people into poverty and hunger. I commiserate with the families of those who died in the attack, who according to reports are mostly security men.

“May God comfort their families, as we pray for the release of those abducted. The government and security agencies must rise and save the nation from further collapse into anarchy. I will continue to insist that a more secure and happier Nigeria is possible.”
