Mozambique: ‘Four million hectares of tree cover lost in the last two decades’

Mozambique has lost “four million hectares of tree cover in the last two decades”.

This is “roughly the size of Switzerland”.

The East African country used to be covered in forest.

According to BBC News Africa: “Almost half of Mozambique is covered in forest but in the last two decades, the country has lost four million hectares of its tree cover – roughly the size of Switzerland.  

 

“One area particularly affected is Chimanimani, a region in Western Mozambique.”
