Peter Obi, 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), prayed for God to grant Councillor Abigail Marshall Katung “the wisdom and strength to function effectively in her new position as Lord Mayor of Leeds in the United Kingdom”.

Councillor Katung has become “the first person of African descent to hold the position”.
According to Obi: “I sincerely congratulate a Nigerian-British politician, Mrs Abigail Marshall Katung, who emerged as the first African Lord Mayor of Leeds in the United Kingdom and has been officially sworn in as the 130th lord mayor of Leeds.
“She is reported to be the first person of African descent to hold the position. Mrs Abigail Marshall Katung is the wife of Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District.
“May God grant her the wisdom and strength to function effectively in her new position, impact more positively on the society and remain a good ambassador of Nigeria, and continue to contribute to the development of our nation as we build a New Nigeria for all.”
