Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw in the Premier League 2023/24 match against West Ham United at London Stadium on Saturday 27 April, 2024.
There was an argument between Reds manager, Jurgen Klopp, and his key player, Mohamed Salah, as the forward was being introduced as substitute.
The Egyptian did not start for Liverpool, and was brought on in the 79th minute.
Jarrod Bowen opened scoring for David Moyes’ side in the 43rd minute, but, Andrew Robertson levelled for the visitors in the 48th minute.
Alphonse Areola, Hammers goalkeeper, hit the back of his own net in the 65th minute, handing Liverpool the lead; the hosts fought back and equalized in the 77th minute through forward, Michail Antonio, after converting Bowen’s assist.
According to bbc.com:
Klopp said he would not disclose what the argument was about, but former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch said on TNT Sports that “it doesn’t look good for the club”.
“Salah is a player who has started the majority of games for Liverpool and he will be fuming to be on the bench,” Crouch said.
“But no-one likes to see this between a manager and a key player.”
In a video on social media, Salah, as he was walking through the media area after the match, said: “If I speak there will be fire.”
A reporter asked “Fire?” and Salah replied: “Yes, of course.”
Klopp said later: “We spoke about that in the dressing room and it’s done for me.”
