Dutch forward Quincy Promes sentenced to six years over drug smuggling

Dutch forward, Quincy Primes Promes, has been convicted by a Dutch court for his involvement with a drug smuggling ring, sentencing him in absentia to six years in prison.

According to a ruling by Amsterdam District Court, 32-year old Promes was involved in the import and export of hundreds of kilograms of cocaine in 2020.

The former Sevilla and Ajax forward lives in Moscow, Russia and did not make himself present at his trial in Amsterdam.

Reuters reports that, Promes is not expected to return to the Netherlands “in the foreseeable future”.

The court said, “this makes it even more objectionable that the suspect tries to increase his wealth (and possibly also prestige in certain circles) through involvement in large international drug transports.”

Lawyers of Promes told AD, Dutch Newspaper, Promes will appeal his sentence, as he denies the charges of importing, exporting, transporting and possessing the drugs.
