Governor Otti said: “We had the honour of hosting the Political and Economic Section Chief of the US Consulate Office Lagos, Mike Ervin and his team, who were in Abia State on a working visit.

“We had a fruitful discussion on how to strengthen ties between the US and Nigeria, and how to promote trade, investment and prosperity in Abia State.

“We shared with them the challenges and opportunities that our state faces, especially in the business sector. I highlighted the need for access to finance, power and logistics support for our entrepreneurs and industries.

“I also informed them of the upcoming commissioning of the Geometric power plant in Aba, which will solve the perennial power problem in our commercial hub and boost the productivity and competitiveness of our businesses.

“Abia State is proud to be a major trading and industrial hub in Nigeria, with over 50,000 shoe manufacturers and a vibrant fabrics and garment sector. We have made tremendous progress in the last 8 months in rehabilitating our infrastructure, especially roads and drainages, to create a conducive environment for business and investment.

“I appealed to the US Consulate to assist us in finding solutions to the challenges of foreign currency funding and fluctuations and to explore ways of partnering with us in the area of digital economy and innovation.

“We appreciate the US Consulate for their interest and support for Abia State, and I look forward to more collaboration and cooperation in the future.”
