Pope Francis, Head of the Catholic Church, Bishop of Rome and Sovereign of the Vatican City State, has asked the world to “pray together for the victims of the severe violence in Plateau State” Nigeria.

He prayed, “May God free Nigeria from these horrors!”
According to 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, the killings in Plateau State “occurred on Christmas day”, describing it as a “mindless act of terrorism”.
Pope Francis prayed: “Let us #PrayTogether for the victims of the severe violence in Nigeria’s Plateau State. May God free Nigeria from these horrors! Let us also pray for those who lost their lives in the explosion of a tanker truck in Liberia.”
